Piss On The Constitution

Eh, in case anyone was watching the Democratic National Convention and got some hope for the future or something. I've been casually following it but when this came on in my car, it reminded me to keep it real and shit. This was supposed to be on Pharoahe's shelved album, Innervisions. Pharoahe tosses together American history, Biblical verse, and dystopian paranoia into a mess of a message meant to mirror the chaos he sees in the world. Yknow, par for the course for Monchichi. And Pharoahe shows Mike Shinoda how hip-hop can really rock.

Pharoahe Monch "Book of Judges"

[Verse 1:]
America the Ugly raped my mother
Deceived my sister, separated my brother
Murdered my children, hung my father
Now they want me to Rock The Vote, the fucks why bother?
Seen them commercials for the army of whatever
Picture me giving a damn, I said never!
My mind's too short, my brain's too clever
My spine is too strong, every line pulls your lever
Limitless rhymes for the indigenous the remedy
PLOT! Getting my money like the Kennedy's
Flip it! Put 'em in stocks, collect anemities
Rock, roll, behold my epiphanies and
Read 'em and weep, heat 'em, I beat 'em to sleep
Mislead 'em until we even-steven, defeat em' with freedom of speech
And we let them know that I'm the motherfuckin' fire-starter
Piss on the constitution and burn the Magna Carta

[Chorus:]
All I know is what I feel
Deceive my eyes and distort what's real
All truth will set you free
I rather die on my feet than delivery my knees

[Verse 2:]
We dying over black gold they harvest in the sand
Presidents living marvelous, they starving in Sudan
It's obvious we walk a blind path to oblivion
The book of judges, read the scriptures unlike Gideon
Light my fire, start my engine
When Pharaohe becomes Moses it's medicine for who listens
A veteran with the might bringing prophecies to fruition
Motivational verses on the adverse conditions
Caught on the mainframe, I see the names man
They watch you from the street light, you and your main man
The barcode around your neck same as your name brand
You're lost in strange land, no thoughts of a game plan

[Chorus:]
All I know is what I feel
Deceive my eyes and distort what's real
All truth will set you free
I rather die on my feet than delivery my knees

[Outro:]
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta
Piss on the constitution, then burn the Magna Carta [fade out]

this made it onto his last album Desire as a hidden bonus track...very powerful stuff.

Yeah, it was actually only on the UK release as a bonus cut. Which made me sorta disappointed that I actually bought the US retail version of it. But I don't at all regret supporting that excellent CD.
